Stop with the house hate, okay? Slytherin aren’t bad guys.
Alright. I’m getting tired of all the house hate in my tracked tags. Specifically Hufflehate and Slytherinhate. Let me make something clear: All the houses are brilliant.
Hufflepuffs aren’t stupid or boring or failures or whatever the hell people like to equate to the house. They’re not leftovers. They have, in my opinion, some of the best qualities out of all the houses. They’re not simply “just and loyal” and that isn’t boring or ‘stupid’ anyway. Those are fantastic qualities. But I’ve said plenty about the awesomeness that is Hufflepuff before, so I wanna address Slytherin for once.
Slytherins aren’t the “bad guys” they’re not “evil”. Unfortunately, Slytherin is a very traditional house, with a high number of pure bloods, which has given it a bad reputation. Slytherin, like Gryffindor, also has a lot of pride, which I feel often translates to arrogance, selfishness, etc. But it doesn’t have to.
Slytherins are fucking awesome. They’re ambitious, loyal, creative, cunning, proud, and clever. Honestly, Slytherins share plenty of qualities with the other houses. So to want to be anything but a Slytherin, well, why?
The whole “But Slytherins are the bad guys” argument is such bullshit. The house attracts traditional pure bloods, true. But it’s not the house that’s bad, or that it turns someone bad.
“Evil” isn’t a quality of Slytherin. What’s bad is the traditional values that fuel prejudice. And unfortunately, when you throw attributes like ambition, pride, loyalty, and cunning on the fire of tradition and prejudice, you get an incredibly bad mix.
That’s why a disproportionate amount of Death Eaters are from Slytherin. Their pride intensifies their often prejudiced values, their ambition drives them to do something active about, something more. Their cunning and cleverness allows them to be successful about their endeavors.
Another thing. The way I see it is Hufflepuff and Gryffindor are very focused on the community, the group, whereas Slytherin and Ravenclaw are very focused on the self. Both things are legit! But Slytherin’s drive for the self also has something to do with it nurturing a disproportionate amount of Death Eaters, because I feel like being focused on the self often extends to become disregard for others if left unchecked.
I feel like you’d end up with plenty of dark wizards from both Ravenclaw and Gryffindor as well. You just don’t hear about it. I think because Ravenclaw doesn’t get the time of day, so you don’t know all the Dark Wizards that came out of Ravenclaw. and Gryffindor would be likely to sweep the bad guys under the carpet, and pretend like nothing happened, because they too are incredibly proud.
Lets not forget some of the Slytherins. Andromeda was a Slytherin, and she’s an ally to the order. She’s Tonks’s mom, if that’s any indication of what she’s like. Slughorn fought at the Battle of Hogwarts, leading a group of Slytherin students in the fight. Regulus showed bravery and tried to stop Voldemort when he realized that people were dying an that shit wasn’t cool. Snape’s not a good example IMO, but hell, you can still argue that at the end of the day, he did fight the good fight, he did serve the order, even if it was for entirely selfish reasons.
Not the best examples, I know. But unfortunately JKR dropped the ball on showing us the variety within Slytherin house. That’s what you’re left to pull from.
But seriously. It’s not the house that’s bad. So don’t hate on it. Just because it may inadvertently nurture some shitty, preexisting qualities in someone, doesn’t mean it will corrupt everyone who’s sorted there. The other houses have qualities that could equally nurture shittyness in someone. A Hufflepuff’s loyalty and determination can be dangerous, as can Gryffindor’s bravery and nerve, as can Ravenclaw’s cleverness and creativity.
Apparently people are complaining about being sorted into Hufflepuff.
They should cut that shit out. Because:
1) You’re in Pottermore, and a lot of us aren’t there yet. Shut up.
2) You are in the house of Cedric Diggory and Nymphadora Tonks. Show some god damn respect.
I would be PROUD to be a Hufflepuff. They’re patient, loyal, hard-working, and true. And if anyone feels the need to continue to piss and moan about being sorted there, I’d be HAPPY to take their place.
I would be honored if I ended up in noble house of Hufflepuff.

I’m in the SHUT THE FUCK UP AND BE NICE TO EACH OTHER House.
Whichever House that happens to be.
